Helloooo lovely readers! It’s been a while! I started this blog a year ago and never fully took advantage of it, but I am excited to post more from now on! Today I am going to share a few of my favorite things to do if I am not feeling my best and wanna cheer up a bit! I hope you enjoy. 


1) Read a book

I love when you find a book that is so good you don’t want to put it down. If you're feeling kinda funky and you want to get your mind off things, pick up a novel or self help book! Getting out of your head and mentally going to another place is a perfect way to relax and it’s such a healthy habit to have. With technology being a constant in our day to day lives, being able to shut everything out and get away from all the screens is replenishing. The book I am currently reading is called Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It is a retelling of the book Hosea and is so beautifully written. I cannot put it down and highly recommend checking it out! These are a few books I've either read or have started and not yet finished. Another recommendation I'd give is the book Eat Pretty it's not only written about food but talks about taking care of yourself from the inside out. 

2) Exercise

Boosting your energy and releasing endorphins, exercising is physically and mentally SO rewarding. When you are moving your body you are loving your body. Even if you don’t feel like going to the gym or out for a run, you can do simple workouts at home. Yoga for example, is such a good option. You can practice just about anywhere so that’s a bonus. It’s up to you how intense you want to go with your exercises. I have found a love for exercising, I either go to the gym with someone (usually my boyfriend) or I do at home workouts like yoga or cardio/weights.

3) Light a candle and clean

Candles are so happy and brighten up my mood…literally haha. Decluttering and cleaning up your space will cheer you up, I promise. Even if it takes a while you'll feel accomplished when you’re done. Being in a messy environment brings you down, sometimes you may not even realize it. I personally love cleaning and rearranging my room- I don’t know why but I always have. Play some music and get into it, who knows you might even enjoy it! I'm currently loving this cinnamon candle from Bath & Body Works.

4) Make your tummy happy

Whether it’s a snack, a light meal or something like a smoothie…whatever it is- taking the time to make something for yourself is a great way to improve your mood! Indulge in something not so good for you or lean towards the more healthy side. Treating yourself every so often is totally okay. It’s all about balance! Breakfast food is my favorite and I have been making smoothies recently. (they fill you up, and aren’t too time consuming to whip up) I am not the best cook but I really enjoy it, and working on improving my skills. Check out the book Eat Pretty for tips and recipes.

  • Ingredients for this smoothie: 4oz. of water, handful of ice cubes, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, honey and dairy sensitive yogurt Silk is my favorite. Blend for 15 sec intervals until it's to the consistency you want.

5) Get crafty

Ahh, I get so inspired scrolling on Pinterest. There are so many DIY crafts and things to try out. Go to your local art supply store and choose something fun to make! Watercoloring, drawing/painting and making collages are super fun as well. Don’t feel pressured to create something picture perfect, it’s more about enjoying the experience! Check out my Pinterest! 6) Take a bath

I.love.baths. Give me all the bath bombs, epsom salts, face masks and bubbles, please. I enjoy putting bath salts in to soothe my muscles. I also love adding lavender or eucalyptus & mint bubble bath to clear my head and because it smells heavenly. You can also put on a face mask while relaxin’ in the tub. Self care is so important and treating yourself to a nice bath will hopefully put your mind at ease like it does mine.

something that's been on my heart

I believe that within every person, within our core..we are good. It is pure and can be accessed in many ways. Reprograming our thought processes back to that goodness, can change your life. Over time this could change the way we view things + the way we think and affect others. 

I say this because I can relate. For a long time, it was easy for me to view life through a negative lens. Even if there wasn’t a reason to. Living with this mindset really sucks, especially when I knew deep down within me was something different . I let my fears and anxieties take over any other emotions and it became an unhealthy habit. I didn’t even understand I lived this way until certain things happened and I was woken up. It catches up to you, and I now live seeing the goodness that surrounds me. Even during hard times I focus in on that positive mindset.

When you feel so controlled by the negative, it is so difficult to attempt to altar these ways. If you can relate to this at all, if you are feeling stuck, or as if you aren’t living for what you know are the right reasons, It isn’t too late to turn in the right direction. Or starting to do small things everyday that over time will become second nature.

When I think of the times living with such a false mindset, I understand that self-control wasn’t there. I allowed the emptiness to take over and focused on the wrong things. When I should have been going outside enjoying the sunsets and listening to the birds, I shut my bedroom door and listened to music. Tuning the world out, shutting away my true feelings and distracting myself with social media/things that didn’t even matter. I mean, without those times I may not be who I am today, but it was definitely a hard lesson to learn-alone. But all by myself I made the decision to stop living that way. I sometimes catch myself thinking negatively and acting out of fear and it terrifies me. I don’t ever want to let a negative way of thinking take over me so much- life is too short. It is too short to not value the goodness within us and all around us. During the highs and lows of life we should do everything we can to never take for granted what we have been given, who loves us, and how much potential we all obtain.

No matter our past or what the future may hold let that goodness within you, take over. Live your life out of love focusing as much as you can on the positive. What happens won’t disappoint you I promise.
